Is 1.75 m equal to 5.74 ft or 5 feet 9 inches?
Both are correct, depending on how you round. 1.75 m is about 5 ft 8.9 in, which rounds to 5 ft 9 in. If a form has separate fields for feet and inches, enter 5 for feet and 9 for inches. Do not read 5.74 ft as 5 ft 7.4 in. The decimal part of a foot must be converted to inches by multiplying it by 12.

Checking furniture, room sizes and tape measurements
- Will a 1.2 m desk fit in a 4 ft space?
- Based on width alone, yes. 1.2 m ≈ 3.937 ft, or about 3 ft 11.2 in. A 4 ft opening is 1.2192 m wide, so the desk leaves only about 19.2 mm of total clearance. Because the fit is close, measure the opening at its narrowest point and check for handles, legs, trim, or other parts that may extend beyond the listed width. Rounding the desk to "4 ft" would hide this small but useful difference. If the product dimensions are listed only in inches, convert meters to total inches.
- Is 3 meters the same as 10 feet?
- Not quite. 3 m is about 9.843 ft, or 1.89 inches short of 10 ft. A 3 m x 4 m room measures about 9.843 ft x 13.123 ft, but those converted side lengths do not give the floor area. A 3 m x 4 m room has an area of 12 m². For flooring or room-area comparisons, convert square meters to square feet.
- How do I read the result on a tape measure?
- Use the fraction marked on your tape, such as 1/8 or 1/16 inch. For example, 2.4 m ≈ 7 ft 10.49 in. Rounded to the nearest 1/16 inch, that becomes 7 ft 10 1/2 in. That rounded tape-measure mark is only about 0.3 mm longer than the original 2.4 m length. For a tight fit, keep the unrounded measurement until you know how much tolerance the job allows. Add any cutting or fitting allowance separately.
